Abstract
We have studied optical properties of poly (9, 9-dioctylfluorene) (PFO) thin films prepared by cooling from the liquid crystalline phase on rubbed polyimide (PI) alignment layers. The PFO thin films are highly oriented, which is manifested from absorption and fluorescence spectra. We find polarization-sensitive photoconductivity of aligned PFO thin films. The ratio of photocurrent parallel (I_<//>) to parpendicular (I_⊥) directions to the rubbing direction is 18. Such polarization properties of the photo-conductivity enables us to apply the aligned PFO thin films to polarization-sensitive photoelectric conversion devices.
