Glass forming cholesteric liquid crystals (docosa-10, 12-diynedioic acid dicholesteryl ester) including a potoreactive polymer produced the photorewitable full-color image storage. The potoreactive additives were prepared by polymerization of 12- [4- (4-dodecylphenylazo) phenoxy]dodecyl-acrylate in the liquid crystals. Weight average molecular weight of the polymeric materials was determined to be c. a. 7000 by gel permeation chromatography. The liquid crystal cell containing the azobenzene additives both before and after polymerization showed shifts of the cholesteric pitch in response to photo-irradiation depending on the isomerization ratio of azobenzene. The color image written in polymerized media maintained after heating at 50℃ for 12h, while the image written in the media without polymerization immediately disappeared on the heating at 50℃.
