Cholesteric liquid crystal (CLC) with a twist defect was fabricated by superposing two photo-polymerized CLCs. The twist defect is a discontinuity of the director rotation around the helix axis interface of two photo-polymerized CLCs. A defect mode peak originated from the introduction of a twist defect was observed in a transmission spectrum of the CLC with a twist defect. Lasing based on twist defect mode also observed at twist defect mode wavelength.
