1B09 Phase transition in cyclotriphosphazenes with benzylalcohol derivative side chains : the effect of molecular structure on the mesogenicity

Abstract

The mesogenity of the hexakis (3, 4-didodecyloxybenzyloxy) cyclotriphosphazene (HDBCP) and hexakis (3, 4, 5-tridodecyloxybenzyloxy) cyclotriphosphazene (HTBCP) was studied using thermal, optical and spectroscopic method. In HDBCP, an enantiotropic mesomorphic phase was observed and this phase was determined using small angle X-ray scattering and powder X-ray diffraction measurements. The relationship between molecular structure and mosomorphic phase were discussed.
