We synthesized hexakis (4-decyloxy (4'-biphenoxy) cyclotriphosphazene (HDCP), octakis- (4-decyloxy- (4'-biphenoxy) cyclotetraphosphazene and poly (bis (4-decyloxy (4'-biphenoxy) - phosphazene). Their phase transitions were studied using DSC and X-ray diffraction measurements and polarizing microscope observations. HDCP had a schlieren texture having a n≧2 discrination, which suggests the existence of a higher ordered smectic phase. But X-ray diffraction measurements indicated that the phase is normal ordered smectic phase. Mesophase was not observed in hexakis (4-decyloxy (4'-biphenoxy) cyclotetraphosphazene.
