Abstract
A two-layer liquid crystal (LC) lens using a new electrode structures proposed recently are reported. A driven method is employed and no disclination lines appearing in the LC layer. The thickness of the LC layers in the cell is much thinner than those used before. The response time of the LC lens can then be controlled within 1 second. With the new technique it becomes possible to build an LC lens with multi-LC layer, and a responsive LC lens with desired focus power can be realized.
