Abstract
We have prepared novel non-symmetric dimeric liquid crystals where cyanobiphenyl and pheylpyrimidine moieties are connected via a dihydroxybenzene and investigated the transition behavior. A flexible dimeric liquid crystal possessing a 1,3-dihydroxybenzene derivative in the spacer group was found to show an unusual phase sequence of I-N-SmA-SmCanti. Furthermore, a polar non-symmetric bent molecule where the two mesogenic groups are connected via 1,3-dihydroxy-5-methoxy benzene has been prepared. We discuss the structure-property correlations for the flexible bent molecular system.
