Abstract
Oligomeric liquid crystalline compounds are expected to show interesting properties, because such compounds have an intermediate molecular weight between polymeric liquid crystalline compounds and monomeric ones. The oligomeric compounds, 1,2,3-tri[ω-(cyanobiphenyloxy)hexanoyloxy]propane and 3,3'-tetra[ω-(cyanobiphenyloxy)-2-propanoloxy]dipropylether were synthesized in our laboratory. These compounds have a glycerol unit as the main chin. The thermal and the dynamic viscoelastic properties of these compounds have been studied, furthermore, the electrorheological effect has been also studied.
