Abstract
The non-symmetrical dimeric liquid crystals containing two lateral fluorine atoms in the mesogenic group, 4-(4-fluorobenzoyloxy)phenyl 4-(4-n-hexyloxybenzoyloxy)-2,3-difluorophenyl decanedioate (abbreviated to 4FdiF-8) had been synthesized and discussed the phase transition behavior. In this study, the homologous compounds with systematically changing the length of the flexible methylene chain were prepared in order to discuss the effect of the spacer length on their phase transition behavior. In addition, we determined the molecular and crystal structures of 4FdiF-8 and its analogous compound, 4-(4-fluorobenzoyloxy)phenyl 4-(4-n-hexyloxybenzoyloxy)-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorophenyl decanedioate (abbreviated to 4FtF-8) by single-crystal X-ray diffraction method.
