Abstract
We observed a unidirectional rotation of cholesteric droplets sandwiched by two glass plates under a temperature gradient. The rotational behavior showed a clear dependence on the chirality of the sample (dopant) and the temperature gradient; the inverse of the dopant chirality and that of the temperature gradient completely reversed the rotational direction. Whereas, the relation between the rotational speed and the dopant concentration was not simple; only in the limited range of the dopant concentration, the droplet rotation took place, which was, in most cases, accompanied by the rotation of the molecular center of gravity rather than the director rotation.
