Abstract
Patterns of human fingerprint are used widely in personal authentication because these patterns are random and unique in individuals. UV-curable chiral nematic liquid crystals in a homeotropic cell show a complex and random texture known as fingerprint texture, and UV irradiation can fix this texture by photo polymerization. This polymerized liquid crystal films have a random pattern like human fingerprint. Therefore, this film can be used as security device that is embedded into each ID cards for authentication. Moreover, patterning can be realized by using masks with a desired pattern.
