Abstract
Recently, a photo-alignment (PA) method attracts people's interest due to its noncontact and dust-free natures. But the weakness of the anchoring energy in a PA method impedes the application of the method to LCD production processes. In this report, we focus our attention to developing a PA method for IPS-LCDs, in which we use a newly developed photo-alignment material showing liquid crystalline and photo-sensitive properties. The results show that the PA material needs extra low UV exposure energy, which is due to a liquid crystalline nature of the material.
