Abstract
Liquid crystal (LC) alignment directions have been investigated. Liquid crystals (LCs) with and without polar groups align perpendicular and parallel to the rubbing direction on a rubbed polyvinyl-cinnamate (PVCi) surface, respectively. Easy axis of the rubbed PVCi surface are investigated by using mixture of LCs with and without polar groups, for example 5CB and MBBA. The change of the easy axis of rubbed PVCi with the mixing rate of LCs is affected by the core structure of LCs.
