Abstract
A series of liquid crystalline (LC) nanosheet colloids with different layer thickness of 1.2, 1.6, 2.0, and 2.4nm were prepared by exfoliation of Dion-Jacobson-type layered perovskites, KCa2Na3-nNbnO3n+1(n = 3, 4,
5, and 6), and their phase behavior and structure were investigated. The birefringent textures observed by polarized microscopy confirmed the formation LC phase in the colloid5. In the KCa2Nb3O10 system, the critical concentration of isotropic-LC phase separation was determined to be very low (0.43 wt. %). A swollen lamellar structure with the basal spacing of 88.2 nm was identified by small-angle X-ray scattering.
