Abstract
The electric field induced transition of the planar state to focal conic state of the cholesteric phase was investigated. The planar state of a liquid crystalline compound 4-octyloxy-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid 2-chloro-4-(2-methyl-butoxycarbonyl)-phenyl ester (8BP(Cl)MB) shows electric field induced transition to the focal conic state.
In this study,an acrylate monomer was mixed with 8BP(Cl)MB and photo polymerized in the cholesteric phase. The effect of the polymer
stabilization of LC phase on the electric field induced transition was discussed.
