We report the lasing characteristics of a cholesteric liquid crystal (ChLC) laser with in-plane helix alignment utilizing a conducting polymer active layer. The purpose of this research is to improve lasing threshold of ChLC laser with in-plane helix alignment. Low threshold lasing compared with conventional in-plane helix aligned ChLC laser was achieved by utilizing the polymer active layer. It is considered that the optical gain was increased because almost all of the excitation light was absorbed at the polymer active layer.
