Trends in liquid crystal alignment technologies toward the next generation LCDs are summarized in terms of the required properties for televisions, mobile & tablet displays. The required properties such as high transmittance, fast response time, and high definition are reviewed from the viewpoints of the liquid crystal alignment technologies.
