We performed the structure analyses for induced smectic (Sm) phases for the binary system composed of the polar and the non-polar molecules. Through Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and FT-IR spectrum measurements, we understand in a quantitative way that the most fundamental structure is the dimer constructed of two monocomponents. We found that in the phase transition from SmA to the highly ordered SmB or SmE phase, only the region constructed of the complex can exhibit the phase transition, and as a result, the characteristic coexistence state of SmA and SmE phase is achieved as the stable state.
