Abstract
I analyzed the local nano-structure in the binary mixture of a bent-shaped liquid crystal and a rod-like cholestreric mixture using small-angle X-ray microbeam scattering. It was found that three types of nano-scale phase-separated structure occur, depending on the cooling process, and in particular, two of them simultaneously appear in the gradual cooling process (less than -0.1℃/min.). Moreover it was also found that a liquid crystalline order, which is different from that in the original molecules, occurs in this system, which is assumed to be induced by the B4 helical filament working as a biasing field.
