We prepared novel NBA polymethacrylate having a relevant structure to the polymeric composite and evaluated its photoisomerization behavior. The film exhibited an axis-selective trans-cis-trans photoreorientation by irradiating with LPUV light. Annealing the films in the liquid crystalline temperature range of the material greatly amplified the photo-induced small optical anisotropy of the irradiated films. Influence of the annealing temperature on the thermal enhancement was evaluated using irradiated films with 7 J of photoirradiation. When the annealing temperature was between 120 °C and 300 °C,significant molecular reorientation occurred. This temperature range is consistent with the LC temperature range and the polymer showed high thermal stability and large optical anisotropy after thermal annealing due to long mesogenic structure.
