Cholesteric liquid crystals in which molecules are aligned helically, show periodic distribution of the refractive index along the helical axis. Thus, the precise control of the helical axis lead to generate various optical properties such as light reflection, diffraction, and refraction. In this study, we report that we can control the orientation of the helical axis of cholesteric liquid crystal elastomer during photopolymerization. The elastomers can be easily prepared by patterned photopolymerization with UV light through a photomask. We also investigated the optical functions derived from the control of the helical axis orientation.
