Abstract

Bicontinuous cubic (Cub) phase has a three-dimensional network structure. We have been investigated effects of the molecular core structure on the phase behavior in 1,2-bis(n-alkoxyaryloyl)-hydrazines. In this work, we synthesized a compound with a lateral substituent introduced in the core portion and investigated the phase behavior. As a result, the compound formed a Cub phase and its formation temperature of about 370 to 470 K shifted to the lower temperature side as compared to the compound without the lateral substituent. We discuss effect of the lateral substituent on the phase behavior.
