When two LC compounds working as an electron donor and acceptor are mixed, due to the charge-transfer interaction, they often exhibit highly ordered smectic phases such as SmE and SmB. In this report, we mixed 8CB and dialkyl-terminated azobenzene derivatives with the chain lengths of 8, 9, 10, and investigated how the molecular lengths should affect the phase diagrams of the mixtures. Among the three combinations, the mixtures of 8CB and 4,4'-di-n-octyl-azobenzene (8AB8) exhibited SmE phase in the largest range of mixing ratio. Since the lengths of 8CB-dimer and 8AB8 are close to each other, the length matching may play an important role in the stabilization of SmE phase.
