We have been working on the realization of ferroelectric columnar liquid crystals, which are expected to be applied to metal-free and high-density memory devices. Recently, we have reported the realization of electro-responsive columnar liquid crystal phase in a compound with three amide groups. However, it has not reached full ferroelectricity due to the lack of sufficient intermolecular interactions to maintain the polarization. In this study, to form stronger intermolecular hydrogen bonds, we designed novel compounds in which each of the three amide groups was replaced with a urea group. As a result of electrical measurements, the polarization was maintained for 22 seconds, while the polarization maintenance time of the triamide compound in the previous study was 0.9 seconds.
