Hydrogen-bonded cyclic hexamers, so-called rosettes of π-conjugated molecules with barbituric acid unit undergo supramolecular polymerization in non-polar solvents through π-stacking interactions to form spontaneously (intrinsically) curved nanofibers. This intrinsic curvature enables the creation of supramolecular polymers with a variety of topologies (shapes), such as rings (toroids), helices, waves, spirals, and chains (polycatenanes). In addition, these supramolecular polymer assemblies have topology-dependent energy landscapes and also exhibit dynamic, diverse properties derived from hydrogen bonding.
