Abstract

The reduction of friction and wear directly leads to energy saving and long life of machinery, contributing to a safe and secure sustainable society. While lubrication control, which is the key to this, has become a general-purpose and mature technology, energy loss due to friction is still not small, and a large cutting margin remains. In this lecture, in order to cut into this, the author will talk about the research and development of ultra-low friction interfaces using concentrated polymer brushes and the direction of their applications and discuss their relevance to the liquid-crystal field.
