The optical filters possessing asymmetric dependences on the incident angle direction produced from liquid crystalline monomer

Abstract

For light shielding, it is preferable to cut only the light from above. The optical filters possessing asymmetric dependences on the incident angle direction could be realized. The filters contain LC films of HAN-LC type structure which could be produced by using dichroic dye and LC monomer. Two types of the filters are proposed. One is composed of one HAN-LC film and a polarizer. Another is composed of two HAN-LC films and a half wave plate. These filters can be used for sunglasses, windows in cars and buildings and other applications.
