Abstract

Diverse structures of soft matter crystals will be reported in this talk. These structures are spontaneously formed at temperatures below the recently found bent grain boundary (BGB) phase. Despite the system is composed of a single molecular model, multiple types of building blocks form to make up higher order structures. In contrast to the BGB phase, the crystal phase can sustain curved surfaces which form during self-organization and appear along other types of building blocks. The undulation of the smectic layers and its period-halving wave length determine the characteristic length of the building blocks.
