Thiol-terminated poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) was synthesized by Grignard metathesis polymerization and subsequent thiol-ene reaction with alkylene dithiols. We prepared gold nanoparticles (NPs) modified with the thiol-terminated P3HT (P3HT-Au NP). P3HT/P3HT-Au NP mixed monolayer was prepared by the co-spread method with liquid crystal molecules on water. UV-visible absorption spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy revealed the formation of the P3HT-Au NP monolayer network. The hybrid multilayer networks were prepared by sequential horizontal deposition of P3HT-Au NP monolayer networks and evaporation of the liquid crystal molecules. We evaluated nonlinear characteristics of the hybrid multilayer networks with different layer numbers and particle sizes of Au NPs by current-voltage measurements.
