Abstract

It is important to investigate millimeter wave absorbance and reflectance characteristics of liquid crystal (LC) tunable metasurfaces because they can play a crucial role in current 5G telecommunication systems. Furthermore, adding a see-through function in the visible light region increases the practicality of the devices. In this work, we introduced ITO layers as grid-patterned electrodes of LC tunable absorbers. We found that the millimeter wave absorbance varied by injecting a liquid crystalline material into empty cells. In other words, the permittivity variation of the LC layer can change the millimeter-wave absorption characteristics.
