The reentrant phenomenon in liquid crystals is a phenomenon in which a highly ordered layer that appears at a lower temperature transitions back to a less ordered phase at a lower temperature. One of the authors (Kubono) has reported viscoelasticity analysis of bulk reentrant liquid crystals using Rayleigh light scattering. Interfacial viscoelasticity is also important because liquid crystals are aligned by rubbing on the surface of the alignment film. In this study, we measured viscoelastic changes at the interface of reentrant liquid crystals using the quartz crystal microbalance method, which can measure viscoelasticity near the interface.
