Abstract
We have prepared MHPOBC (4-(1-methylheptyloxycarbonyl) phenyl 4'-octylbiphenyl-4-carboxylate) and its homologues with various 'lateral' substituents at the chiral center in order to realize the variaty of AFLC compounds. The antiferroelectricC phase (SmCA*) was observed for the homologous series except the pentyl homologue. The miscibility studies of the homologue and 8OSI* (FLC) were carried out. The mixture exhibited the SmCA* phase, indicating that the chirality of the system may induce the antiferroelectricordering.
