Abstract
Monosubstituted ferrocene derivatives, [4-[ω-(cholesteryloxycarbonyl)alkoxycarbonyl]phenyl]ferrocene (CAPF-n) (n is the carbon number of the methylene chain, n=1〜11, 15) have been synthesized. Some of them (CAPF-2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 15) exhibited liquid crystallinity. In this study, the crystal and molecular structure of CAPF-6 was determined by X-ray diffraction method in order to discuss exactly the structure of liquid crystalline phase. The crystallographic data are as follows; C51H_70O4Fe, M=802.96, monoclinic, space group P21, a=13.093(5)Å, b=8.977(5)Å, c=38.532(4)Å, β=93.17(2)°, V=4522(2)Å3, Dc=1.179gcm-3, λ(CuKα)=1.54178Å, μ=29.95cm-1, F(000)=1736.00, Z=4.
