Abstract
The low frequency dispersion of complex dielectric constant was used to analyze the ionic conduction of a nematic liquid crystal. Trace quantity of TCNQ (tetracyanoquinodimethane) was introduced in liquid crystal cell to realize the ionic conduction under controlled conditions. The dispersion was analyzed by a series combination of equivalent parallel circuit of the cell and polyimide alignment layer. The validity of the model was checked by changing the thickness of the alignment layer. The experimental dispersion curves were excellently fitted by the series model by introducing a space charge distribution parameter. The conductance vs. TCNQ concentration curve was discussed with an ion dissociation mechanism.
