Abstract
The antiferroelectric liquid crystal MHPOBC has been investigated by means of broad band linear dielectric spectroscopy measurements. It the former, the details of molecular motions occurring from 0℃ to 140℃ are obtained being largely consistent with previous work. On an application of a low step field, the linear dielectric response due to Goldstone mode appears at 30μs in the SmC* phase. As the field is increased, it is taken over by the ferroelectric polarization whose time constant depends upon field according to a power law. On removal of the applied field the ferroelectric polarization disappear at ca. 300μs being independent of field.
