Abstract
Since the discovery of a Surface Freezing Effect of n-alkane, the surface structures have been the subject of recent interest. In this study, we have performed DTA (Deferential Thermal Analysis) and ultraviolet photoemission measurement to investigate the Surface Freezing Effect of n-alkane. The sample used in the experiment was pentacontane (n-C50H120:650Å ) and tetratetracontane (n-C44H90:600Å ) films evaporated film on Cu substrate. We have succeeded to observe of a monolayer phase transition and proved that a Surface Freezing Effect of n-alkane is the first order phase transition. Moreover, we have found that the temperature dependence of ultraviolet photoemission intensity is the useful measure of the Surface Freezing Effect.
