Light Deflection Phenomenon of SmC^* Phase of AFLCs under Electric Bias field

Abstract

Light deflection phenomenon of SmC^* phase of R-MHPOBC under electric bias fields. The deflected lights were observed in two regions of bias field, at which the dielectric constant showed steep decreases and the apparent tilt angle showed stepwise increase, simultaneously. Characteristic dependence of the deflection angle on the angle of incidence is an evidence of the coexistence of two phases.
