Abstract

We propose new concept of capillary covered carbon felt electrodes in small scale of electro-organic synthesis. Capillary covered carbon felt electrode could be made by placing a couple of carbon felts in a pasteur pipette and heating them with a gas burner to stretch the glass. When it was cooled to room temperature, the electrode was prepared by cutting it to the desired length. The present electrode we propose here is more robust than fragile pencil leads, and is therefore effective for electrochemical synthesis in small sizes. Although the distance between electrodes using naked carbon felts might be changed under stirring due to threads, the distance between electrodes could be fixed by using the present electrodes under electrolysis.
