In an attempt to study the disturvance of carbohydrate metabolism in Graves' disease, the author measured the fasting blood glucose levels in 54 cases of Graves' patients or observed the blood sugar curves following the glucose administration by intravenously and by orally in 22 patients, and also compared the rate of disturvance in carbohydrate metabolism with the clinical signs of thyrotoxiscosis and the results of thyroid functions tests (basal metabolis rate, serum protein-bound iodine and radio-iodine uptake), and following results were obtained ;
1. The abormal fasting blood sugar leves were found in 48% of examined patients, under abnormals, many of cases showed low blood suger levels.
2. It is to be appraised from the findings of tolerance tests (both oral and intravenous), that allmost the half of examined patients have shown mild or moderate disturved carbohyte utilization, although, this disturvance was not correlated with the severity of disease or the value of serum PBI, however, slightly correlation were seemed on the radioiodine uptake.
