According to the statistics of diabetes insipidus in our country, traumatic insipid diabetics appear in merely about 4% of all insipid diabetes. Therefore we can say that this disease is not yet an encountered one commonly in our country. So we reported in this paper three cases of traumatic insipid diabetes which were treated recently.
The first case was 20 years old man and the next was 27. Both case occurred diabetes insipidus three weeks after when head trauma happened on account of traffic accident, and their urine amount was about 7000-10000cc daily.
Examination on the function of the hypophysis-adrenal system reveals slight disturbance in both cases. These two cases were treated uneffectively by the extract of posterior pituitary lobe (Atonin, Pitocin) and Butazolidin, and then transplantation of posterior lobe of calf hypophysis, especially simultaneous transplantation of both anterior and posterior lobes, showed remarkable effect on the polyurea and thirst.
Later their condition took a turn for the better as a result of repeating transplantation of calf pituitary.
The third case was 26 years old horse-man and he was beginning to suffer from polyurea and thirst about three weeks after a fall from the horse.
In this case the patient was observed his prognosis without specific treatment, but after six months process, he recovered spontaneously from polyurea and other subjective symptoms.
From these results, we would be proper to consider that this disease take a good prognosis without specific therapy, while the transplantation of calf hypophysis prove the remarkable effect.
