The number of collisions where fishing boats and other vessels are involved occupies considerably large part of the number of total collisions. The traffic of fishig boats also shows an interesting pattern different from that of ordinary vessels.
Therefore, a traffic survey is made in lrago Strait. Analysis of the record at the lrago Signal Station, Maritime Safety Agency, is also tried for 5 years from 1975 to 1979.
The result gives as follows. (1) The seasonal change of the number of fishing boats in operation is very large. It is about 4 times larger in summer than that in winter. (2) Wind influences the number of fishig boats greatly. Beaufort scale 5 and up almost inhibits operation of fishing boats. (3) The traffic of fishing boats shows steep peaks at dawn and in the evening.
