This paper reports the characteristics of a new SSR antenna for enroute air traffic control. It has an SSR feed horn aside the primary radar feed horn, and it is named the SSR offset type integral feed antenna. This feed horn configuration is designed to obtain a sharp cutoff elevation pattern and to reduce lobing effects and false targets due to ground reflections, which are inherent problems of the conventional antenna with a broad elevation pattern. The analytical and experimental results indicate that the new antenna is very effective in alleviating these problems. In this paper, further considerations are also given to other characteristics such as beam skew and offset angle.
