The performance of various navigation aids is often deteriorated by miltipath interfernce between direct waves and those reflected from construction and terrain around the facilities. The deterioration may be prevented by finding out reflecting objects and by reducing the reflection from them. However it is not always easy to locate a primary reflector.
This paper presents a method to locate the reflector which causes the multipath interference among several objects around a facility. The mutual correlation function and measured data of received signal are employed in this paper in order to find out a multipath sources.
The reflector locator has been developed to facilitate the locating process. The locator consists of a personal computer with a color display and an image scanner so that prompt data acquisition and computation can be done. Predicted positions of reflectors may be displayed in different colors depending on the strength of reflection.
ILS scale model has been used to estimate the accuracy of the locator. The relation between the accuracy and the number and position of reflectors has been discussed. The suitable portion in the measured data to use for the locating process is also discussed. These pieces of information enhances the accuracy and utility of this locator.
