Escherichia coli was cultured in media containing different types and concentrations of salts under various pressures. Relatively high salt concentrations improved the growth of E. coli under high hydrostatic pressures. Chloride ions are especially effective for survival. The effects of chloride on improvement for growth of E. coli under high hydrostatic pressure can contribute for survival under such stress conditions.
