The predecessor organization of the department of wildlife biology, FFPRI began research in 1885 and has long played a role in wildlife studies and administrations in Japan. The wildlife specimen room still contains historical materials on those activities. As for the studies, there are those related to the bird-banding research that was first been conducted in Japan in 1924, including the recapture data book, banding rings used, foreign rings that may have been used as models. Also related to wildlife administration were illustrations of pet and game birds and wild bird calendars. These are valuable materials that demonstrate that the predecessor organization has long been trying new survey methods and addressing various administrative issues. In order to preserve and utilize them, I present a list with their own reference numbers.
