The summary of the information given by the above studies is as follows:
(1) “Hydrazine-cellulose II” and “Ethylendiamine-cellulose II” were treated with glycerine at 250°C. The transition of hydrate cellulose into native cellulose was completely effected this method. Heating only for two or three minutes is sufficient for a complete transition to Occur.
(2) The reasons why the transition of hydrate cellulose into native cellulose occurs more easily and completely when it is performed through the molecular compounds of cellulose as compared with when it is carried out directly, that is, by the heat treatment of hydrate cellulose, were discussed.
(3) By lowering the temperature of the heat treatment it was observed that the interferences become more diffuse and broader. From this it was concluded that in the course of the transition the crystal lattice of hydrate cellulose becomes once unstable and decreases its crystallographic symmetry.
