The present authors have tried to prepare the cellobiose acetate under various conditions. 1. In the acetolysis, it is found to be very important facts that water and alcohol soluble matter should be removed as much as possible from the gelationus substance, which is produced by pouring the acetylated product into water. 2. The effects of the duration on the production are studied, tissue paper (moisture content 5.35% and ash content 0.31%) being used as material. Exp. A. 5g of material are treated with the mixture of 20g acetic anhydride and 5g of H2SO4 (sp. gr. 1.84) for the desired time. Exp. B. The same material is treated with the mixture of 44g acetic anhydride and 6g of H2SO4. The following results are obtained:- Exp. A. Exp. B. 3. Various cellulose materials are tried and they are subjected to the acetolysis using 5g of the material. The acetolysis is carried out by treating the material with the mixture of 20g acetic anhydride and 5g H2SO4 for 7 days at room temperature (25°-31°). 4. Finaly, the effects of the acetic anhydride on the yield of octacetate are studied. 5g of tissue paper is treated with the mixture of 5g of H2SO4 and various amounts of acetic anhydride for 10 days at room temperature (18°-25°). (p. 3.) In conclusion, we have studied on the effects of duration and the amounts of acetic anhydride on the yield of octacetate by using various cellulose materials.
