Abstract
The photoreaction of Crystal Violet (CV) was studied on polymer films, and compared with that in solution as previously reported.1) The spectral change of CV on polymer by irradiation resembled well that in solution; the spectral changes on nylon 6 and cellophane films were similar to that in alcohol, while the spectral change on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) to that in acetonitrile solution. The photoreactions on polymer films, however, differed from those in solutions as follows; (1) the photoreactions took place on polymer films by visible light irradiation, contrary to the case in solutions. (2) The dye was very readily photoreduced on nylon by an electron transfer from carboxylate ion of nylon. (3) The dye existed in aggregate (s), and the photoreaction were governed by D-D mechanism on PAN and cellophane films.
