Abstract
Cellulose ether possesses a viscosity and water retention due to mixing into cement. This paper describes initial crack suppressing effect of the concrete by the low molecular weight of cellulose ether. The effect in the concrete with the addition of low molecular weight of cellulose ether was confirmed irrespective ratio of reinforcement and thickness of cover concrete. However, conditions in the downwind, excessive addition of low molecular weight of cellulose ether was found to cause plastic shrinkage cracking. In addition, suppression of bleeding due to water retention of low molecular weight of cellulose ether was confirmed, there was no relation to moisture evaporation amount.
