Abstract

The aim of this study is contributing to technical tradition of skilled painting worker. The results of quantitative analysis of characteristic of skilled painting worker motion deriving from the ergonomics experiments based on motion capture and EMG are described in this paper. The painting motions of 11 skilled workers and 11 beginners were compared. In painting work by skilled workers, the muscular strength to hold the roller grip was 50% of the beginner. Skilled workers completed the painting work with 75% of beginner's work time. The common pattern of speed change derived from skilled workers was extracted from the vertical reciprocating painting operation. Sharp acceleration and deceleration was presented at the upper and lower ends, and the speed was roughly constant at another position.
